We have achieved significant advances in the integration of an open-source Open RAN network with the CARLA driving simulator to advance intelligent vehicular communication. This work is developing within the 6GOASIS project, led by CTTC.
The driver for AI-driven xApps development is to optimize energy consumption and reduce carbon footprints, while collision avoidance features and other safety applications will enhance road security.
By leveraging Open RAN architecture, the project enables Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communications (URLLC)—a key component for autonomous driving and other real-time mobility services. This initiative directly supports UN SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities & Communities) and aligns with EU green policies focused on sustainable urban development.
The system is designed to enhance 6G-powered mobility, improving traffic flow optimization and autonomous vehicle interactions. Additionally, it ensures efficient low-latency communication for real-time applications in smart cities. By fostering a more sustainable and intelligent transport network, 6GOASIS contributes to reducing carbon emissions and energy consumption, paving the way for greener urban mobility solutions.
