The advent of several very high resolution spaceborne SAR missions, such as COSMO/SkyMed, GaoFen-3, TerraSAR-X, Radarsat, Alos-2, etc…. enabled an extensive range of new applications, and generated a very huge amount of high quality data.
Approaches bases on SAR Multi-Channel (Multi-Baseline, Multi-Frequency, Multi-Pol, Multi-Antenna) data from the previous mentioned missions allow today 3D imaging and monitoring of urban areas, anthropic structures as bridges or dams, volcanos, forests, cultivated land, etc… with very high accuracy on parameters to be estimated, as velocities of displacement, heights, etc…
The adopted methodologies are rather mature and, in some cases, developed also at the level of operative services. Nonetheless, there’s room for new approaches and methodologies to improve performance and to move up and forward the level of performance.
A description of some new developments in SAR interferometry, and SAR tomography, with particular emphasis on the digital signal processing aspects, will be presented, spanning from urban to natural scenarios, together with real data results.
SPEAKER: Prof. Vito Pascazio graduated (cum laude) in 1986 at the University of Bari, Italy, in Electronic Engineering, and he received in 1990 the Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science from Department of Electronic Engineering of the University of Napoli “Federico II”, Italy. In 1990 he was first at the Research Institute on Electromagnetics and Electronic Devices (IRECE) of the Italian National Council of Research (CNR), Napoli, Italy, and then he joined the Università di Napoli “Parthenope”, Italy, where he is presently Full Professor. Vito Pascazio was also the Director of the National Laboratory of Multimedia Communication of National Consortium Inter-Universitary of Telecommunication (CNIT) from 2011 to 2016, and Chair and Dean of the Department of Engineering from 2013 to 2019.
Vito Pascazio was PI or co-PI of several research Projects funded by Italian and International Institutions, Agencies and Companies.
His main research interests are in the field of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Image Processing, SAR Interferometry, SAR Tomography, GB-SAR, Microwave Tomographic Image Reconstruction, Ground Penetrating Radars, Through the Wall Imaging, and, more recently, on Application of Deep Learning Techniques to Radar and Remote Sensing Imaging.
He served as General Co-Chair IGARSS 2015 conference in Milan (Italy), and as member in the Technical Committees of several conferences. He will be the co-Chair of next IGARSS 2024 in Athens (Greece).
This talk is open to whoever interested from the research community
