Education: Engin Zeydan received his Ph.D. degree in February 2011 from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ, USA. Previously, he received his M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, in 2006 and 2004, respectively.
Experience: Dr. Zeydan has worked as an R&D engineer for Avea, a mobile operator in Turkey, between August 2011 and April 2016 in Istanbul, Turkey. He was with Turk Telekomunikasyon A.S between April 2016 to November 2018 working as a Senior R&D Engineer in Istanbul, Turkey. He was also a part-time instructor at Electrical and Electronics Engineering department of Ozyegin University Istanbul, Turkey between January 2015 and June 2018. Since November 2018, he has joined the Communication Networks Division of the Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC) and is now working as a Senior Researcher.
Research Activities: His research areas include applications of data engineering/science for telecommunication networks and flexible mobile networks. In the past, he has been involved in research projects concerning diverse topics including user mobility characterization in wireless networks, game theory in wireless networks, self-organization for mobile networks, big data enabled caching solutions at mobile edge, indoor localization of mobile users and mobility management solutions.
Scientific Projects: He has been involved in many European and national level projects in collaborations with various industries and universities across Europe and Turkey. Some of these are:
H2020 projects are MonB5G (Distributed management of Network Slices in beyond 5G, November 2021-present) as Project Coordinator, 5Growth (5G-enabled Growth in Vertical Industries, June 2019-present) and Clear5G (Converged wireless access for reliable 5G MTC for factories of the future, September 2017- November 2018),
FP7 projects are MOTO (Mobile Networks Evolution for Individual Communications Experience, November 2012- October 2015) and CROWD (Connectivity management for eneRgy Optimised Wireless Dense networks, April 2014- June 2015),
Eureka Celtic-Plus projects are MEVICO (Mobile Networks Evolution for Individual Communications Experience, August 2011 – December 2012), SIGMONA (SDN Concept in Generalized Mobile Network Architectures, April 2013 – November 2016), PULPA (Platform for indoor mobile based user localization to improve user shopping and touristic experience, December 2017- November 2018) and SHARING (Self-Organized Heterogeneous Advanced Radio Networks Generation, January 2013- February 2016) ,
ITEA project is PAPUD (Profiling and Analysis Platform Using Deep Learning, January 2018 – November 2018).
Services: He is serving as a peer reviewer for IEEE, Springer, Wiley and Elsevier journals and technical program committee (TPC) member for several IEEE conferences (ICC, WCNC, GLOBECOM, PIMRC, WiMob, etc). He has been involved in many teaching activities for undergraduate/graduate level students at the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of Ozyegin University including courses such as Wireless Networks, Recent Advances in Networking, Wireless Communications, Introduction to Digital Communications and Wireless Communications Engineering Technologies. Dr Zeydan has also given a tutorial on “Big Data for Networking: Objectives, Challenges and Applications”, at IEEE NOMS 2016, April. 2020.
Awards: He received a Best Paper Award from the Network of Future (NoF) Conference in November 2017, Best Fast Track Paper from IEEE NFV-SDN 2020 conference, Best Demo Award in IEEE SECON 2021 conference as co-author and Exemplary Reviewer for IEEE Communications Letters Award in 2011. He earned IEEE Wireless Communication Professional Certificate (WCP), IEEE WCET®, (June 2017- May 2020). He is also Senior Member of IEEE since April 2020 (SM’20).
