Jordi Serra received the degree in telecommunications engineering in 2006, the Master of Research on Information and Communications technologies in 2012 and the Ph.D. in signal theory and communications in 2016 (cum-laude), all from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), Barcelona, Spain.
He joined the Centre Tecnologic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC) in 2007, where he currently holds a position as a senior researcher at the Communications Technologies Division (CTD). From 2008 to 2010, he was awarded a Torres Quevedo Research Grant from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. He has participated in more than twenty research projects funded by either private entities or public institutions within the framework of H2020, FP7 EU programs. In five of those projects he served as the technical leader at CTTC. In two of these projects he has served as a task leader. The topics of those projects dealt with MIMO applicability to satellite communications; channel modeling in power line communications; signal processing in 4G and 5G networks; performance optimization and resource management in smart grids, wireless sensor networks, Internet of Things and B5G networks. Moreover, he has actively participated in obtaining funds from H2020 EU research programs. In several of those project proposals he envisaged the CTTC technical contribution.
He is senior member of the IEEE. Moreover, he is the CTTC representative in the “Artificial Intelligence and Big Data” commission of AMETIC (the Spanish Association of Electronics, Information and Communications Technologies, Telecommunications and Digital Content Companies).
He has been co-recipient of the best demo award of the IEEE CAMAD 2018 conference, the ENIAC JU 2015 innovation award for the E2SG project and the second prize in the ENF´15 exhibition award.
He has been session chair at the IEEE CAMAD 2018 conference. Also, he was part of the technical program committee in the IEEE CAMAD 2019 and 2020 conferences. Moreover, he is serving as a reviewer in signal processing and communications journals and conferenes such as IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE Green Communications, IEEE Network, IEEE ICASSP and IEEE Globecom. His current research interests include deep learning, random matrix theory, high dimensional statistics, large-scale optimization and its applications to B5G networks and the Internet of Things.
He has been co-advisor of one MSc. Thesis in computer science at the University of Barcelona (UB). Also, he has been co-advisor of five MSc. students’ internships.
