Lluis Gifre Renom (Barcelona, 1984) graduated in Computers Science engineering in 2012 and received a Ph.D. degree in Computers Architectures in 2016, both from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Spain. His thesis was focused on the use of in-operation network planning techniques for dynamically optimizing optical core networks based on the Flexgrid technology.
From 2017 to mid-2019, he was teaching, as an Assistant Professor at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), subjects on computers architectures, computers networks, multimedia networks, and digital embedded systems. His research was focused on monitoring and data analytics platforms for optical and packet networks.
In mid-2019, got a position as a Research Engineer at Nokia Bell Labs (France). His work was focused on network device agents enabling the logical aggregation and disaggregation of optical network equipment. He is the lead inventor of a novel method to synchronize and schedule the monitoring operations of multiple network devices to improve the quality of the telemetry measurements.
In mid-2021, he got his current position as a Researcher at the Packet-Optical Networks and Services (PONS) research unit, part of the Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC). His current research is focused on cloud-based platforms in support of Software-Defined Networks (SDN) / Network Function Virtualization (NFV), network slicing and virtualization, and orchestration of infrastructures for 5G/6G networks. Within the scope of the H2020 TeraFlow project, he is coordinating the technical design, implementation, and contributions to the project.
During his career, he participated in 4 EC-funded projects, one of them as institutional PI, 5 nationally-funded projects, and 1 industrial collaboration. He is the lead inventor of 1 patent, and he has co-authored more than 60 publications including book chapters; high-impact peer-reviewed and indexed international journals, invited journals and talks, post-deadline—awarded papers, and live demonstrations. He supervised 7 students including Bachelor degree projects and Master degree external practices.
In 2016, he got the accreditation of Assistant Professor by ANECA (Spain). Since 2021 he is an IEEE Senior Member. He is a regular reviewer of notable journals in his field, such as Journal of Lightwave Technology (JLT) and Journal of Optical Communications and Networking (JOCN).
